Women's Soccer Dominates In 4-0 Victory Against Franciscan; Qualifies For AMCC Tournament As #4 Seed

GREENSBURG- In a win or go home scenario with the winner qualifying for the AMCC tournament and the loser going home, it was the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team that dominated in a 4-0 victory over Franciscan in the regular-season finale Tuesday afternoon at Ridilla Field.

With the win, Pitt-Greensburg qualifies for the 2018 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament as the #4 seed, where it will host the #5 seed Penn State Altoona, Saturday at a location/time to be announced.

The Bobcats end the regular-season with a record of 9-7-1 and 5-4-0 in AMCC action, while Franciscan falls to 5-10-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play. Franciscan also qualifies for the AMCC tournament and will enter as the #6 seed and face the #3 seed D'Youville.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated the Barons in Tuesday's regular-season finale, outshooting Franciscan 22-3 and 8-2 in corner kick opportunities. The Bobcats held the Barons without a shot or a corner kick in the opening 45 minutes of play.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds in the match. Bri Burgunder dribbled the ball down the right hand side of the field and crossed an attempt into the 18-yard box, which Tiffany Michalek managed to corral and drill the attempt into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Michalek came close to notching her second of the match in the 16th minute, as she broke away from the defense and had a 1-on-1 with Baron goalkeeper Sarah Luebking, but Luebking managed to corral the shot and keep the deficit to 1-0.

Pitt-Greensburg doubled its lead in the 23rd minute on an own goal by Franciscan. The Bobcats remained in the lead and with just seven seconds left before half, added a third goal on Camdyn Bass' first of the season.

The halftime break did not deter the momentum for the Bobcats, as just six minutes into the second half, McKenzie Huntebrinker found the back of the net with her second of the season to put Pitt-Greensburg up 4-0.

Kaity Watson stopped the only shot she faced on the afternoon and earned her sixth win and third shutout of the season.

Pitt-Greensburg advances to the AMCC Tournament where it will take on the #5 seed Penn State Altoona Lions Saturday, at a location/time to be announced.
