Volleyball Falls At Behrend In Final Match Of 2018 Season

ERIE- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team (1-24, 1-8 AMCC) dropped its final match of the 2018 season Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 3-1 (7-25, 3-25, 25-23, 7-25) at Penn State Behrend (18-9, 8-1 AMCC).

After dropping the opening two sets by scores of 25-7 and 25-3 respectively, the Bobcats regrouped and played their best volleyball of the afternoon in the third set. The Bobcats won the third set by a score of 25-23, totaling 12 kills on 41 attacks for a .171 hitting percentage.

Marissa Leonard and Alexis Ray each tallied five kills to lead the Bobcats, while Emma Dongilli helped pace the offense with 15 assists. Kassi Niver led the way on the defensive end, tallying a match-high 20 digs.

Penn State Behrend jumped out to a quick lead to open the third set, but the Bobcats fought back and would tie things up at nine, following an Alex Parra error. A second error by Parra once again tied the set at 11 for Pitt-Greensburg and the Bobcats would take their first advantage, 12-11 on a point by Dongilli. After Pitt-Greensburg would take its first lead, Penn State Behrend called its first timeout of the set in hopes of stopping the momentum. Coming out of the timeout, the Lions ran off four-quick points to once again go ahead in the set, 15-12.

Behrend continued to remain in front until four-straight points by the Bobcats once again tied things up at 20. Out of the timeout, Behrend won three of the next four points to grab a 23-21 advantage. Down to the brink of ending the season, Pitt-Greensburg won four-straight points to extend the match with a 25-23 victory in set three.

The Lions regrouped and would complete the 3-1 victory with a 25-7 win in the fourth set.
