GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team claimed a 75-71 victory over Thiel in the 2018-19 season-opener Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Hall.

After a slow start to the game with just 11 points in the opening quarter, the Bobcats had their offense flowing over the final three quarters, topping the 20-point mark in each of the final three stanzas.

Nadege Durand led the way offensively totaling 21 points and hauling down 17 rebounds, nine on the offensive end of the court. The 17 rebounds is just one board off Durand's career-high. The sophomore forward also knocked down 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, dished out two assists, and notched a team-best three steals.

Murphy tallied 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Ballow chipped in with 11 points and three assists. Gollihugh notched 10 points on 3-of-7 from the floor and also did a great job of getting her teammates involved, dishing out a team-best five assists.

Jess Vormelker led Thiel with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Danyelle Lucido hauled down a team-best 11 boards.

Thiel knocked down 10 three-pointers compared to seven for Pitt-Greensburg, but it was the home side that continued to generate points close to the basket, outscoring the Tomcats by 14 (32-18) in the paint.

Defensively, the Bobcats forced 21 turnovers and turned the extra possessions into 15 points, compared to just eight for the Tomcats.
Thiel led for the entire opening stanza and held a 17-11 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Pitt-Greensburg opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run and Durand's layup gave the Bobcats their first lead of the contest at 18-17 with 7:35 left in the first half. The two sides traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and Alycia Lynch's layup put the Bobcats ahead 33-32 at the halftime intermission.

Maddie Sitler's layup just 12 seconds into the second half extended the Bobcats' advantage to 35-32, but Thiel answerd with back-to-back hoops to jump back in front 36-35. After Durand's layup at the 6:20 mark put the Bobcats in front 40-39, Pitt-Greensburg went on a 17-8 run over the final six minutes of the third quarter to grab a 54-47 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.

Baskets by Sitler and Ballow to begin the fourth quarter pushed the Bobcat lead to 58-47 with just over nine minutes left in the game.
Thiel continued to chip away at the lead and would get within three points, 74-71 with under five seconds left, but Maddy Coddington knocked down a crucial free-throw to send the Bobcats to a 75-71 victory.
