Women's Basketball Falls In Non-Conference Matchup At Grove City

GROVE CITY- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team fell to Grove City by a score of 89-40 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night inside Grove City College Arena. 

Pitt-Greensburg connected on 16-of-51 (31.4%) from the floor and made 4-of-13 (30.8%) from three-point distance. 

Sam Ballow led the way offensively for the Bobcats tallying a team-high 13 points on 5-of-12 from the field, while Cat Gollihugh provided a nice spark off the bench with nine points, all of which came on three-point baskets. Alycia Lynch also provided a boost off the bench, as the freshman scored seven points on 3-of-4 from the floor.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 5-4 advantage just over three minutes into the contest as Ballow connected on a fast break layup, but Grove City responded with back-to-back baskets to jump in front 9-4 with 5:25 left in the opening quarter. 

Lynch knocked down a jumper to get the Bobcats back within two (9-7) at the 4:52 mark, but 17 seconds later Kate Balcom answered with a basket for Grove City, which was the start of a 7-0 run by the Wolverines. 

Pitt-Greensburg would get within six on a three-pointer (16-10) from Gollihugh with 4:02 left in the opening frame, but GCC reeled off an 11-5 run over the final four minutes to lead 27-15 heading into the second frame. 

Early on in the second quarter, Pitt-Greensburg would cut the deficit to 11 on Gollihugh's second three-pointer of the evening, but Grove City would outscore the Bobcats 22-7 in the second stanza and hold a 49-22 advantage at the halftime break. 

Grove City would remain in the lead for the final 20 minutes and go on for the 89-40 victory. 

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action next Tuesday (Nov. 20) when it once again takes to the road to face Westminster at 5 pm. This will mark Pitt-Greensburg's third-straight contest against a Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent.
