Three-Point Shooting Lifts Allegheny Past Men's Basketball

MEADVILLE- Kyle Bondi's 17 points was not enough as the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team (1-1) lost 92-80 at Allegheny College (1-0) on the opening day of the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Classic Friday evening inside the David V. Wise Center.

Bondi came off the bench and totaled 17 points in 17 minutes on 8-of-13 from the floor. Brady Kingston and Cody Spaid were also in double-figures for the Bobcats with 12 and 10 points respectively, while Cam Seigfreid put together an impressive performance on the boards, hauling down a career-best 10 rebounds. As a team, Pitt-Greensburg shot 41.4% from the floor and after hitting 11-of-30 (36.7%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, shot much better in the second half, knocking down 18-of-its-40 attempts (45.0%).

Allegheny seemed like it could not miss from behind the three-point arc in the first half, knocking down 9-of-19 from three, but the Bobcats regrouped at the halftime break and held the Gators to just 2-of-12 from distance over the final 20 minutes.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead for much of the opening seven minutes of the contest and two free-throws from Jay Grubb put the Bobcats in front 13-11. The lead would not last long however, as Jordan Rawls and Bill Urso made back-to-back baskets to put Allegheny in front.

Over the final 10 minutes of the opening half, Allegheny caught fire from behind the arc drilling five three's and would head into halftime holding a 47-30 advantage.

Allegheny would remain in front for the entire second half and would lead by as much as 26 with 8:55 left, but Pitt-Greensburg continued to play hard and would claw its way back. Over the final 8:55 of the game, Pitt-Greensburg outscored Allegheny 29-12, but the Gators held off the furious comeback and would go on for a 92-80 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action tomorrow afternoon, as it faces Bluffton at 3 pm in the final game of the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Classic.
