@UPG_WBB Falls In AMCC Home Opener To Hilbert

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (2-4, 1-1 AMCC) had three players post double-figures, but would drop its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference home opener 71-52 to Hilbert College (7-2, 2-0 AMCC) Saturday afternoon in Chambers Hall.

Nadege Durand led the Bobcats with 17 points, four rebounds, and added four steals, while Colleen Murphy and Maddie Sitler added 13 and 10 points respectively. Murphy posted 13 points, five rebounds, and knocked down three shots from behind the three-point arc, while Sitler added 10 on 5-of-9 from the floor, grabbed five rebounds, and posted a career-best four steals.

The Bobcats also got solid contributions off their bench from freshman Alycia Lynch who posted seven points on 3-of-4 from the floor in 13 minutes.

As a team, Pitt-Greensburg continued to disrupt Hilbert with intense defensive pressure for much of the afternoon, resulting in a season-high 11 steals and 14 turnovers, which were converted into eight points.

Hilbert also had three players reach double-figures, led by guard Taylor Corts who posted a game-high 22 points. Courts scored 17 points in the first half, but managed just five points after the halftime break, as the Bobcat defense held her to just 1-of-5 from the floor and 1-of-3 from three-point distance.

Pitt-Greensburg held an early 3-2 lead on a three-point make from Durand, but the Hawks would come right back and go on a 12-0 run. The Hawks held the lead for the remainder of the first and second quarters and took a 41-22 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Bobcats played well in the second half, shooting 38.2% from the field and made four three-point shots after just one in the first half. Pitt-Greensburg continued to claw its way back and cut the deficit to 11 late in the fourth quarter, but would come up short, falling 71-52.

The Bobcats return to the court Wednesday evening, when they play host to La Roche at 6 pm. Pitt-Greensburg had great success against the Redhawks last season, sweeping the season-series between the two schools.
