Durand’s Career Night Leads Women’s Basketball Past La Roche

GREENSBURG- Nadege Durand's career-high 30 points propelled the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (3-4, 2-1 AMCC) to a 74-70 victory over La Roche (4-4, 2-1 AMCC), in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall.

Durand posted a game-high 30 points on 11-of-20 from the field and had a great day at the free-throw line, knocking down 8-of-10. The sophomore forward also recorded her third double-double of the season, hauling down a game-high 11 boards, six of which were on the offensive glass.

Colleen Murphy also was in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg totaling 18 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and hit all six of her attempts from the free-throw line. Cat Gollihugh nearly posted a triple-double as the sophomore guard totaled seven points, grabbed a career-best nine rebounds, and handed out seven assists.

As a team, the Bobcats had a decided advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 20-of-27, while defensively held La Roche to just 7-of-11, including 1-of-4 in the first half.

For La Roche, Jenna Cole led the way tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Dalezsa Regan also pulled down 10 boards for the visitors.

Pitt-Greensburg did a great job throughout the night of getting all of its players involved, totaling a season-high 17 assists on 27 made field goals. Of the 17 assists, 11 came in the first half, which propelled the Bobcats to a 10-point halftime lead (35-25).

Both teams got off to a slow start as La Roche held a marginal 6-4 advantage midway through the opening quarter. Following a layup from Nia Thomas with 6:31 left, the Bobcats responded with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes and would lead 18-12 heading into the second stanza.

Pitt-Greensburg would not relinquish its lead in the second quarter and after a bucket from Cole got the Redhawks within four with 1:47 left, the Bobcats ended the half on a 6-0 run and held a 35-25 lead at the halftime break.

Coming out of the intermission, the Bobcats continued to hold a double-digit advantage and Maddie Sitler's layup at the end of the third frame gave Pitt-Greensburg a 64-48 lead.

La Roche slowly crept its way back and would cut the deficit to one (69-68) with 1:06 left in regulation as Cole hit both her free-throws.

On the next possession, Durand kept the ball alive grabbing an offensive board following a missed three-pointer and proceeded to hit both attempts at the line to once again push the lead to three (71-68).

Danajah Sanders scored a layup for La Roche on the next time down the floor, but once again the Bobcats had the answer. Gollihugh hit both attempts to put the home side up 73-70.

After a timeout from La Roche, Pitt-Greensburg clamped down defensively and forced a turnover which sealed the 74-70 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday afternoon, when it travels to face Pitt-Bradford. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2 pm.
