Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Durand And Sitler Post Double-Doubles In Loss At Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH- Nadege Durand and Maddie Sitler each posted a double-double, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (4-5) fell 76-64 at Carnegie Mellon (8-1) in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon inside Skibo Gymnasium.

Durand recorded her fifth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds, while Sitler posted the first double-double of her career, totaling 14 points and 10 boards.

Colleen Murphy was also in double-figures for the Bobcats, adding 18 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and knocked down 2-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Tuesday's outing was the fifth time this season that Murphy has hit two or more shots from three-point distance.

Despite the loss, Pitt-Greensburg put together an impressive performance on the boards, outrebounding Carnegie Mellon 37-35, and had a decided 18-13 advantage on the offensive glass, including 10-5 in the second half of play. The Bobcats crashed the boards on both ends of the court, totaling a season-best 18 rebounds on the offensive end and 19 on the defensive side. Pitt-Greensburg turned the extra possessions into 17 second chance points and limited the Tartans to just eight.

Both teams got off to a quick start in the opening quarter as the largest lead by either side was just four points. After two ties and six lead changes throughout the opening 10 minutes of play, the Tartans would hold an 18-14 lead after one period of action.

CMU controlled things to begin the second period and pushed its lead to as much as 12 (40-28) on a layup by Emily Archer with 2:23 left in the half, but the Bobcats ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 40-34 heading into the halftime break.

The Bobcats opened with the first basket of the second half to get within four, but the Tartans answer with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to push the lead back to seven. Sitler answered the three with a bucket of her own to get Pitt-Greensburg within five (43-38), but the Tartans would once again respond with a three, which was the start of an 11-2 run for the home side to take control of the game.

The Bobcats would get within seven points early in the fourth quarter on a basket by Sitler, but CMU responded with back-to-back makes as the Tartans would hold on for the 76-64 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg will now take a short break for the Christmas Holiday and return to action Dec. 28-29 as it competes in the Chapman University Tournament in Orange, Ca. The Bobcats will face the University of Redlands Friday afternoon at 5 pm and conclude the two-game West Coast swing with a matchup against Chapman at 6 pm.
