Strong First Half Lifts Redlands Past @UPG_WBB

ORANGE, Ca- Nadege Durand and Colleen Murphy both reached double-figures in the first of two games on the West Coast, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team dropped a 66-43 decision to Redlands in the opening game of the Chapman University Winter Classic, Friday afternoon in the Hutton Sports Center.

Pitt-Greensburg concludes the Winter Classic tomorrow afternoon with a matchup against host Chapman University. Saturday's tip-off against the Panthers is set for 6 pm.

Durand led the way offensively for the Bobcats totaling 16 points and posted her sixth double-double of the season with 16 rebounds, eight of which she hauled down on the offensive glass. The 16 rebounds was the third game this season that Durand has grabbed 15 or more rebounds and the second-straight contest with eight offensive boards.

Murphy was also in double-digits for Pitt-Greensburg, as the junior guard added 11 points on 4-of-10 from the floor and 1-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Murphy has knocked down a three-pointer in all but two games so far this season.

Maddie Sitler also put together a solid game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court, as the freshman forward had eight points, nine rebounds, and also dished out two assists.

Despite having an off-game offensively, shooting just 30% from the floor, the Bobcats continued to crash the boards on both ends of the court, totaling 45 rebounds as well as tying a season-best with 18 offensive boards.

Although Redlands managed 27 offensive rebounds, the Bobcats clamped down on the extra possessions and held the Bulldogs to just 14 second- chance points.

Pitt-Greensburg got off to a quick start opening with the game's first two baskets and would hold a 7-5 advantage after a jumper by Sam Ballow, just over two minutes into the first quarter.

Redlands answered the Ballow bucket with back-to-back three point baskets by Alyssa Downs as the Bulldogs would remain in front for the remainder of the quarter.

Neither side could get its offense going in the second quarter as the two teams combined for just 16 points and Redlands would lead a 37-21 lead at the halftime break.

The Bobcats came out in the second half and held Redlands to just 30% from the floor and 2-of-10 from the three-point arc, but would come up on the short end of the final score, falling 66-43. The Bulldogs shot 34% from the floor and hit seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes of action, but the Bobcats held Redlands to just 12 fourth quarter points, while totaling 13 on the offensive end.
