Murphy's Career-High Propels @UPG_WBB Past La Roche

PITTSBURGH- Colleen Murphy scored a career-high 18 points to propel the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team to a 69-65 victory over La Roche in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening inside the Kerr Fitness Center.

The win gave Pitt-Greensburg the season-sweep of La Roche for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Wednesday's game also was the final road game of the regular-season, and the Bobcats close out the 2017-18 regular-season Saturday afternoon hosting Pitt-Bradford at 4 pm.

Murphy paced the Bobcats with 18 points on 7-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three-point distance, while Kelsey Oddis notched her 17th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds, which included a season-high six boards on the offensive glass. Sabre Turner and Nadege Durand also totaled double-figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Jenna Cole led the Redhawks with a game-high 21 points followed by teammate Darrian Johnson, who totaled 20 points on 9-of-16 from the field.

Despite shooting just 34.3% for the game (23-of-67), the Bobcats dominated the glass on both ends of the court, holding a commanding 45-36 advantage and a 19-7 margin on the offensive glass. Pitt-Greensburg turned the 19 offensive boards into 12 second chance points, compared to just five for La Roche.

Pitt-Greesburg also did a fantastic job of taking care of the basketball, committing just nine turnovers for the game, while defensively forced 14 La Roche turnovers. The Bobcats cashed the Redhawks mistakes into 13 points, while La Roche managed just three.

After attempting just four free-throws in the first half, Pitt-Greensburg made a point to get to the free-throw line, resulting in 23 free-throw attempts, while La Roche attempted just eight.

Stephanie Thomas gave the Redhawks an early lead, making 1-of-2 from the line, but Oddis came right back and drilled a three to put the Bobcats in front for the remainder of the half. The Bobcats led by as much as eight in the opening 20 minutes and went into the half holding a 34-31 advantage.

Cole put the Redhawks back in front 35-34 with a jumper, which started a swing of six lead changes over the remaining 7:23 of the third quarter. Thomas' layup with 11 seconds left in the third put La Roche ahead 44-43 heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The lead would not last long as Cat Gollihugh nailed a three just 26 seconds into the fourth to put the Bobcats back in front.

Turner's layup pushed the Bobcats advantage to seven (57-50) with just under four minutes left in regulation. With just under 90 seconds remaining, the Redhawks sliced the deficit to just three on a bucket from Saundrea Butler, but once again the Bobcats had the answer, which came in the form of an Oddis layup to push the advantage back to five.

Pitt-Greensburg would ultimately fend off the Redhawks hitting 5-of-6 from the free-throw line over the final 16 seconds to send the Bobcats to the 69-65 victory.
