Men's Tennis Takes Down Mt. Aloysius In Conference Home Opener

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team topped Mt. Aloysius, 6-3, in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference home opener Friday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club. 

With the win, Pitt-Greensburg moves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Mt. Aloysius falls to 2-3 and 0-1 in the AMCC. 

The Bobcats started out strong taking two of the three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead heading into singles action. Mt. Aloysius was victories in the first and third singles matches, but Pitt-Greensburg countered with wins at #2, #4, #5, and #6 to claim the 6-3 win. 

The Mounties were victorious at the top doubles spot with an 8-1 decision, but Pitt-Greensburg rolled to wins at the second and third positions. The pairing of Vaughan Hunkele and Thomas Clark took down Dylan Matta and Christopher Godet 8-6 at #2, while Jeremy Simms and Michael Rosky made easy work of John Branick and Gavin Spellmeyer, 8-2. 

Clark and Simms were also victories in their singles matches. Clark took down Godet at #4 singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Simms made easy work of Spellmeyer, winning 6-0, 6-1 at the #6 spot. 

Oliver Robinson was victorious at #5 singles, defeating Branick, 6-3, 6-1, while it was Michael Meyer that clinched the match for Pitt-Greensburg with a win at #2 singles. Meyer and Nick Centrar split the first two sets, with Meyer winning the opening set 7-5 and Centrar evening the match with a 6-1 win in set two. Ultimately, it was Meyer that outlasted Centrar 10-5 in the third and deciding set. 

The Bobcats return to the court Sunday, when they trek to Penn State Altoona for a 1 pm match.
