Rainey's Walk-Off Lifts @Pittgbgbaseball To Extra Inning Victory Over #14 Frostburg State

GREENSBURG- Reno Rainey's two-run walk-off home run lifted the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team (4-5) to a 10-8 extra-inning victory over #14 Frostburg State (11-2) in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

The victory over 14th ranked Frostburg State was the first win over a ranked team for Pitt-Greensburg, since 2016, when the Bobcats won 4-3 over #10 Frostburg.
Ian Hart sent the game into extra innings with a two-run pinch hit home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, for his first career blast.

In the 10th inning, Zack Zimmerman led off and drew a walk after a six-pitch at-bat, which brought the power-hitting first baseman Rainey to the plate. With the count 2-2, Rainey smashed the fifth pitch of the at-bat over the right field fence for his third round-tripper of the season and sent the Bobcats to their fourth win of the season.

On the afternoon, Rainey went 3-for-4 with a run and drove in a career-best five RBI. Zimmerman, Common, and Parlak each collected two hits, while the first two-batters in the Bobcat lineup, Zimmerman and Beasley each drew two-walks to aid in the offensive effort.

In total, Pitt-Greensburg used six pitchers in the win, while Ben Green did not allow a hit over the final two innings and struck out one to earn the first win of his career. Bill Minnick also pitch well for the Bobcats, allowing just one hit over 1.2 innings of relief.

Frostburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in their first at-bats, but Pitt-Greensburg came right back in the bottom of the inning and cut the lead to 2-1 as Rainey scored Zimmerman on a sacrifice fly to left field. Zimmerman reached base earlier in the inning, drilling a 1-0 pitch to center field and would advance to second on an error.

The Bobcats tied the game in their second as Common led the inning off with a double down the right field line, and came around to score on a two-bagger from Parlak.

Colton Sivic smashed a solo-blast in the fourth to put Frostburg ahead 3-2, but Dolan would cross home plate to tie the game at three, scoring on a double to left center by Kiester. Later in the inning, Kiester came around to put Pitt-Greensburg in the lead 4-3, scoring on a wild pitch.

Frostburg tied the game at four in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Takovich and added three runs in the sixth, as the Bobcats held a 7-4 lead after the top of the sixth inning.

Pitt-Greensburg got a run back in the final half of the sixth, as Rainey scored Beasley on an RBI groundout.

Frostburg State was at it again in the seventh, plating its eighth run of the afternoon, but the Pitt-Greensburg would get within two, 8-6 with a run in the eighth. Beasley drew a one-out walk and Zimmerman followed with a single to right field, which was followed by an RBI single from Rainey.

Green sent the Bobcats down 1-2-3 in the ninth and the Bobcats headed to the plate for their final at-bats of the afternoon. Parlak led off the inning with a single and Spadafore made good contact, but flew out for the first out of the inning. Hart was brought on as a pinch hitter and the senior catcher drilled a two-run bomb to tie the game.

In the top of the 10th, Green got the first two batters of the inning to ground out, and after walking Garrett Blank, got Griffith to ground out for the third out.
Zimmerman put together a great at-bat in the 10th, drawing a walk on the seventh pitch of the at-bat and Rainey ended the game with a two-run bomb to send Pitt-Greensburg to the dramatic 10-8 win.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Grove City to face the Wolverines in a doubleheader. Monday's action is set to get underway at 2 pm.
