@Pittgbgbaseball Splits Doubleheader With Husson Tuesday At Historic Henley Field

LAKELAND, Fla- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team defeated Husson in the second game of the day to salvage a split with Husson University Tuesday at historic Henley Field.

The Bobcats held a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, but Husson used a four-run outburst to take the opening game of the day 6-3, but Pitt-Greensburg salvaged the doubleheader, with a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

Mike Dolan, Chris Common, and Noah Bealsey each collected two hits on the day, while Reno Rainey smashed his second home run of the season.

Pitt-Greensburg got a great pitching performance from Dean Edwards in the opening game of the day, as the freshman right hander, went 6.0 strong innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run.

The Bobcats also got a fantastic performance on the mound from Abdi Rodriguez-Polanco, who came on in relief, and the freshman hurler proceeded to toss 3.2 innings, allowing just a hit and struck out six to earn his first collegiate win.

Game 1- Husson 6, Pitt-Greensburg 3

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead, as Rainey drilled his second home run of the season over the right centerfield fence in the bottom of the first frame.

Two innings later, Mike Spadafore connected on a leadoff double and would come around to cross home plate on an RBI base knock from Patrick Aul to double the Bobcats lead to 2-0 after three innings.

Husson tied the game at two with a two-RBI double in the top of the fifth, but the Bobcats would come right back in the bottom of the inning and strike for a third run of the game. Spadafore drew a leadoff walk and would later come around to score on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Holland

In their last at-bats of the game, Husson struck for three runs and would go on for a 6-3 victory. Sam Huston blasted a two-run home run and Alex Champman struck for an RBI single, as the Eagles would complete the 6-3 comeback victory.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 7, Husson 6

The Bobcats got off to a quick start in their first at-bats, as Bealsey led off with a single and advanced to third on a wild pitch, followed by a Zack Zimmerman single to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0.

Pitt-Greensburg struck for two runs in the top of the second as Ian Hart scored Common with an RBI ground out and Dan Kiester connected on a run-scoring single for the 3-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Husson had a runner on third with two outs, but starter Bill Minnick struck out Nick Whitten to escape the game unharmed.

Heading into the bottom of the fourth, Pitt-Greensburg held a 3-0 lead, but that would all change as the Eagles plated four runs on four hits to take a one-run lead (4-3) with three innings to play.

The lead would not last long for Husson, as the Bobcats came right back in the top of the fifth and re-took the lead. Doland drew a leadoff walk and Kiester was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs. The two runners advanced 90 feet and would come around to score on a triple from Beasley to put Pitt-Greensburg back in the lead, 5-4.

Matt Gracian tied the game at five for the Eagles as he scored on a passed ball, but Hart's RBI double in the top of the sixth scored Common and once again gave the Bobcats the lead, 6-5.

Husson came right back and tied the game at sixth, but in the seventh, Rainey showed discipline at the plate, drawing a walk after a six pitch at bat. Ben Green came on to pinch run for Rainey and would advance to third on a single from Holland. Next up for the Bobcats was Common, and the junior outfielder drilled a single through the right side, which scored Green to put Pitt-Greensburg in front 7-6.

Rodriguez-Polanco shut the door on the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh, as the freshman struck out the side and sent the Bobcats to the 7-6 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Wednesday for its final game on the Florida trip. The Bobcats are scheduled to face Widener at 9 am.
