@UPGTennis Earns Hard Fought Win Over Pitt-Bradford On Senior Day

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team (2-7, 2-3 AMCC) earned a 5-4 victory over Pitt-Bradford (1-5, 1-5 AMCC) in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

Pitt-Greensburg would drop the top doubles match, but responded with wins at the final two matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

The doubles pairing of Vaughan Hunkele and Terrance Madarish made quick work of Drew Patla and David Ta,  picking up an 8-2 win at #2 doubles, while Jeremy Simms and Michael Rosky put the Bobcats in the win column with an 8-5 decision in the number three position.

Pitt-Bradford claimed wins at #1, #2, and #5 singles, while Pitt-Greensburg countered with victories in the #3,#4, and #6 matches.

Madarish made quick work of Patla in the #3 spot, winning 6-3, 6-4 and Clark also eased to a win in his match in the #4 spot, 6-2, 6-1.

With the score tied at four, the match came down to a battle at #6 singles, between Jeffrey Kocjanic and Simms.

The two combatants battled in the opening set and would need a tiebreak to decide the opening stanza. Ultimately it was Simms that would prevail 7-4 in the tiebreak and go ahead one set to zero. Kocjanic answered with a 6-4 victory in set two, and the match would come down to an all important three set tiebreak. After battling for nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes in the match, Simms would come out on top, taking the tiebreak 10-5 and giving the Bobcats a 5-4 win over the Panthers.

Pitt-Greensburg travels to Bethany for its final match of the regular season, Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
