Women's Soccer Kicks Off 2018 Season With 2-1 Victory At Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va.- Tiffany Michalek's second half goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team (1-0) to a 2-1 victory at Bethany (0-1) in the 2018 season opener. 

Pitt-Greensburg and Bethany were all tied at one after 45 minutes of action, but just 11 minutes into the second half, Michalek broke the 1-1 draw with her first career goal to lift the Bobcats to the 2-1 win. 

Bri Burgunder opened with the game's first strike just 11 minutes into the first half, as she rocketed a shot into the back of the net. The goal was Burgunder's 35th of her career as well as her 85th career point. Dating back to last season, it was Burgunder's fifth-straight match with a goal and her seventh goal in her last five games. 

Junior Kaity Watson got the starting nod in goal for Pitt-Greensburg and the junior goalkeeper made two saves to earn the victory. Offensively, Bethany outshot Pitt-Greensburg by a count of 8-7, while both teams tallied four corner kicks each. Alexa Fetterman and Michalek each led the Bobcats with two shots apiece, while Camdyn Bass, Andi McGinnis, and Burgunder each added a shot for Pitt-Greensburg. 

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Sunday afternoon, when it takes on Marietta College in a road matchup starting at 1 pm.
