Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanked At Marietta Sunday Afternoon

MARIETTA, Ohio- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team fell 2-0 to host Marietta in its second match of the season, Sunday afternoon.

After Sunday's match, both teams stand a 1-1 on the season. Pitt-Greensburg came into Sunday's matchup after defeating Bethany (2-1), while Marietta dropped a 1-0 decision to St. Vincent.

In Sunday's matchup between the Bobcats and Pioneers, it was host Marietta that outshot the Bobcats 17-8, but Pitt-Greensburg goalkeeper Kaitlyn Watson kept things close with a season-high eight saves on the afternoon. The first half both teams managed five shots each, but neither could find the back of the net as the match remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action.

The second half was a different story as Marietta held a 12-2 advantage in shot attempts and the pressure finally paid off, as Kate Dreas broke the 0-0 tie with her first goal of the season. Dreas fired a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net to put the Pioneers up 1-0.

With under five minutes left in regulation, the Pioneers continued the attack and were fouled inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a PK opportunity. McKenzie Dorr stepped up and converted the attempt and sent the Pioneers to the 2-0 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to Ridilla Field for its next match Thursday afternoon, when it welcomes Thiel College for its home opener at 3 pm.
