Women’s Soccer Runs Past Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team scored three first half goals to propel it to a 3-0 victory at Muskingum in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Pitt-Greensburg improves to 4-2 overall, while Muskingum falls to 2-5. This was the third-straight year the two teams have played, with Pitt-Greensburg coming out on top in all three matches.

For the third-straight match, the Bobcats got on the board early in the first half. In the fifth minute of the match, Alexa Fetterman headed home a corner kick from Kiara DeVore to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

Midway through the first half, Bri Burgunder found the back of the net in the 27th minute to double the Bobcat advantage to 2-0 with her fourth of the season.

Pitt-Greensburg added to its lead with less than 10 minutes left in the opening stanza as Megan Downey notched her first career strike to give the Bobcats a commanding 3-0 margin.

Offense was the story for the Bobcats in the opening 45 minutes, as they outshot Muskingum 11-3, recorded four corner kicks and held the Muskies with a CK.

The second half was better offensively for the Muskies, as they totaled seven shots to just five for Pitt-Greensburg, but Muskingum could not get a shot past freshman keeper Lauren Yoder, who stopped all three shots to earn her first career win and shutout.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Wednesday afternoon, when it welcomes Waynesburg to Ridilla Field for a non-conference matchup at 2 pm.

Wednesday's match will be the first if a doubleheader with the Pitt-Greensburg men, as the men's side will also face the Yellow Jackets at 4:15 pm.
