Women's Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw With Waynesburg

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Waynesburg, in a non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at Ridilla Field.

After the draw, Pitt-Greensburg improves to 4-2-1 overall, while Waynesburg stands at 4-1-2.

Waynesburg entered the match ranked #10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association Regional rankings, but it was the Bobcats that outplayed the Yellow Jackets for much of the match, outshooting Waynesburg 16-9, including 10-4 in the opening half of play.

Both goalkeepers stood tall in their respective nets, as Bobcat keeper Lauren Yoder made four saves to earn her second-straight shutout in as many starts. Waynesburg goalie Courtney Syfert stopped all three shots that she faced to post the shutout.

Offensively, the Bobcats had five players record multi-shot outings, led by Tiffany Michalek, Allie Grimm, Alexa Fetterman, and Bri Burgunder who each totaled a game-high three attempts. McKenzie Huntebriker provided a nice speak off the bench with two solid attempts on goal.

Burgunder had the game's first scoring opportunity in the eighth minute as she drilled a shot towards the goal that went just wide. Waynesburg responded with two attempts, but Pitt-Greensburg answered with five-straight attempts. Fetterman headed a shot towards the goal, but a Yellow Jacket defender cleared the ball off the line to keep the game scoreless.

Despite having the majority of the scoring opportunities, Pitt-Greensburg would head into the half tied at zero.

Waynesburg opened the second half with three corner kicks and two shots over the opening four minutes, but were unable to get a shot past Yoder, who stopped both shots that were directed toward her.

After a fury early in the half, both teams would settle in for a more defensive second half as neither team found the back of the net and the match would remain scoreless after 90 minutes.

Each side would record a shot attempt in the first overtime period, but it was the Bobcats that dominated the second stanza, holding a 3-0 advantage in shots. Despite having the majority of changes in extra time, the match would end in a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of play.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Saturday afternoon, when it opens Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play, hosting Hilbert at 2 pm.
