Women's Soccer Posts 1-0 Shutout Victory At Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA- Tiffany Michalek's goal in the 47th minute lifted the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Penn State Altoona in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Tuesday evening.

Pitt-Greensburg improves to 6-2-1 on the season and moves to 2-0-0 in conference play, while Penn State Altoona falls to 3-4-1 and 0-2-0 in the AMCC.

Despite outshooting the Lions 7-4 in the opening half of play, both sides would head into the halftime break tied at zeo. Just over 90 seconds into the second half, Michalek tallied her fourth of the season and third game-winner as she scored on a breakaway after Lions goalkeeper Riley Barrett misplayed the ball in the box.

Reigning AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, Lauren Yoder made six saves en route to her second win of the season as well as her third shutout. In four appearances this season, Yoder has not allowed a goal and currently posts a shutout streak of 335:00.

Bri Burgunder paced the Bobcat offense with a match-high six shots, while Michalek added five and Andi McGinnis totaled a season-best three strikes.

After scoring the lone goal of the match to go up 1-0, Pitt-Greensburg would not sit on the lead, but continued to push in hopes in putting the game away. The Bobcats dominated the second half outshooting the Lions 13-5 and totaled three corner kicks, compared to zero for Altoona.

Pitt-Greensburg would go on for the 1-0 shutout victory and move to 2-0-0 in conference play.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Erie to face Penn State Behrend at 2 pm.
