Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Edged By Mt. Aloysius

GREENSBURG- Maddie Sitler totaled 19 points and eight rebounds, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (5-10, 4-4 AMCC) dropped a 67-57 decision to visiting Mt. Aloysius (4-12, 4-5 AMCC) in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Wednesday evening in Chambers Hall.

Sitler posted her seventh game with double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg, tallying 19 points on 8-of-13 from the floor and knocked down both of her attempts from the charity stripe. The 19 points for the freshman are her second most in a game this season, trailing only the 26 she posted at Pitt-Bradford.

Sam Ballow was the second Bobcat in double-digits, posting 14 points on 5-of-12 from the floor and connected on a season-best 4-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.

Cat Gollihugh came off the bench and gave Pitt-Greensburg great production with nine points, all of which came on three-point shots, and also dished out a game-high eight assists. As a team, the Bobcats handed out 16 assists on 20 made field goals.

Breana Kendrick led the way for Mt. Aloysius totaling a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds.

Mt. Aloysius utilized a zone defense for much of the evening in hopes of slowing down Pitt-Greensburg, but the Bobcats responded hitting a season-high 11 three-point shots. The Mounties also utilized the three-ball, knocking 13 three-pointers on 25 attempts.

After the Mounties grabbed an early 8-3 lead midway through the opening quarter, Pitt-Greensburg answered with a 9-0 spurt to take a 12-8 advantage with 2:49 left in the opening stanza. The Bobcats would remain in the lead for the rest of the quarter, but back-to-back three point shots from Rachel Robinson and Kendrick cut the Pitt-Greensburg advantage to 15-14 heading into the second period.

Mt. Aloysius would take back the lead, 19-17 on a three by Lea Sammarco, but midway through the quarter, Ballow connected on three shots from behind the three-point arc and sent the Bobcats into the halftime break holding a 29-27 advantage. Pitt-Greensburg held the Mounties scoreless for the final 2:23 of the second period.

Sammarco's three just 28 seconds after halftime put the Mounties back in front, which they would hold for the remainder of the third quarter. Mt. Aloysius outscored Pitt-Greensburg 19-10 in the third frame and held a 46-39 advantage heading into the final 10-minute period.

The Mounties pushed their lead to 10 (49-39) following a three-pointer just over 90 seconds into the final stanza, but the Bobcats came right back and cut the deficit to seven on Gollihugh's third three-pointer of the evening.

Despite Pitt-Greensburg's highest scoring quarter of the game (18 points), Mt. Aloysius managed to hold off a late charge from the Bobcats, hitting 11-of-15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and would hold on for the 67-57 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday afternoon when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to face D'Youville at 1 pm.
