Third Quarter Run Pushes La Roche Past Women's Basketball

PITTSBURGH- Maddie Sitler notched her fifth-straight game in double-figures scoring a game-high 17 points, but La Roche (10-7, 9-2 AMCC) used a 26-point third quarter to defeat the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (6-12, 5-6 AMCC) 68-43 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match-up Wednesday evening inside the Kerr Fitness Center.

The loss for Pitt-Greensburg snaps a three-game win streak against the Redhawks.

Sitler led the Bobcats with 17 points on 8-of-12 from the floor, and also added four rebounds, while Nadege Durand notched her 11th double-double of the year with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Colleen Murphy chipped in with nine points and four boards, while freshmen Alycia Lynch and Myairah Carter grabbed six and five rebounds respectively.

La Roche had five players reach double-digits, led by Jenna Cole's 17 points and 13 boards.

Both teams got off to slow starts, as Dalesza Regan's basket gave the Redhawks a 2-0 lead, but neither side would score another point until Sitler hit a layup to tie the game at two with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.

Sitler notched her second bucket of the game with 2:42 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 6-4, but La Roche ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage into the second period.

Lynch drilled a three to begin the second period to get the Bobcats within five points, but the next time down the court, Sydney Farmer answered with a three for the Redhawks. Both schools totaled 14 points in the second period and  La Roche headed into halftime leading 26-18.

Coming out of the halftime intermission, the two sides both notched baskets, but following a Sitler jumper with 9:15 left, La Roche went on a 24-8 run over the remainder of the quarter to take control of the game and would go on for a 68-43 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Pitt-Bradford to Chambers Hall for an AMCC contest starting at 2 p.m.
