Murphy Posts Career-High But Women's Basketball Falls At Behrend

ERIE- Colleen Murphy scored a career-best 19 points, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (4-7, 3-2 AMCC)  lost 59-49 at Penn State Behrend (5-8, 4-3 AMCC), in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon inside the Junker Center.

Murphy led the Bobcats with 19 points on 7-of-14 from the floor and put together one of her best shooting performances from behind the three-point arc, hitting 5-of-her-8 attempts. The five made three-pointers are a season-high for the junior guard.

Nadege Durand also recorded her fourth-straight game with a double-double, tallying 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Bobcats. The reigning AMCC Player of the Week, also made things difficult for the Lions as she posted a team-high three steals.

Despite coming up short in the win column, the Bobcats had a nine-point advantage from three-point distance hitting six three-point attempts, while defensively held the Lions to just three makes, all of which came in the first half. Over the final 20 minutes of action, Pitt-Greensburg made four three-pointers, while defensively held Behrend without a three on four attempts.

The Bobcats also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Lions 45-33, including a 13-7 advantage on the offensive glass, which they turned into nine second chance points, compared to just four for Behrend.

Caitlin Carnuche led the Lions with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-13 from the floor and also added four steals. Alanna Dibble and Kourtney Beamsesderfe also reached double-figures for Behrend with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Entering the fourth quarter, just a single point separated the two sides, as Behrend led 43-42, but the Lions would pull out the 10-point victory behind a clutch fourth-quarter. Over the final 10 minutes, the Lions hit 5-of-12 from the floor and connected on 6-of-8 from the foul line. Pitt-Greensburg managed to outrebound Behrend 11-7 over the final stanza, but had a tough time shooting the basketball, connecting on just 3-of-11 from the court and 1-of-5 from behind the three-point arc.

Behrend led 17-10 after the first quarter of action, but the Bobcats responded with a dominating second period to grab the lead heading into the halftime break. Pitt-Greensburg outscored the Lions 21-12 in the second period thanks to an 8-of-17 effort from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line, while limiting PSB to just 5-of-21 and no free-throw attempts. After their best quarter of the afternoon, the Bobcats went into the locker room leading 41-39.

The Bobcats remained in the lead for all but the final three seconds of the third period. Carnuche's first attempt at the line tied the game at 42 and her following attempt pushed Behrend into the lead 43-42 with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Pitt-Greensburg had a tough time scoring the basketball over the final half of the third period, as the Lions held them without a point over the final 4:29 of the period.

The Lions outscored Pitt-Greensburg 16-7 over the final 10 minutes and would hold on for the 10-point victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday when it takes to the road to face Penn State Altoona at 6 pm.
