Women's Basketball Falls To Cabrini To Open Stockton University Tournament

GALLOWAY, NJ- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team was in action Saturday (Nov. 16) in the Stockton University Tip Off Tournament. The Bobcats were defeated by Cabrini University, 61-53. UPG falls to 1-1 on the year, while Cabrini improves to 2-0.

Nadege Durand collected a double-double, making her two for two in the young season. She was just one off her career high with 20 rebounds in the game. Her 12 points were a team best and so was her three steals. Cat Gollihugh and Maddie Sitler each tallied 11 points in the defeat.

Pitt-Greensburg scored the first four points of the game before Cabrini found the bottom of the net. Durand connected on consecutive baskets after the Cavaliers scored and the Bobcats were out to an 8-3 lead half way through the first quarter.

Pitt-Greensburg ended up winning the first frame 13-8. The active defense of the Bobcats held the Cavaliers offense to 15% shooting from the field in the first ten minutes.

The Cavaliers fired back in the second quarter to take a 29-20 lead at the half. The Bobcat had their lead vanish at the 7:40 mark in the second quarter when Cabrini went ahead 15-14. Pitt-Greensburg would not be ahead at any time for the rest of the contest.

Sitler and Maddy Coddington scored back to back buckets to open up the second half and bring the Bobcats to within 5. Lexi Edwards, of Cabrini, hit a three at that point to halt the UPG momentum. The teams went back and forth the remainder of the quarter in which each team chalked up 10 points.

UPG owned the glass with 55 rebounds, thanks in large part to Durand's stellar performance, compared to the Cavaliers 39 boards.

The Stockton University Tip Off continues in Galloway, New Jersey tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 17). The Bobcats will take on the City College of New York, who lost to the host Stockton University this evening. The tip tomorrow is slated for 1:00 p.m.
