Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Home Opener Spoiled By Grove City

GREENSBURG, Pa- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team fell to the Grove City College Wolverines, 75-54, in their home opener on Wednesday evening (Nov. 20) inside Chambers Hall. Pitt-Greensburg falls to 2-2 on the season, while Grove City stays perfect at 4-0.

Colleen Murphy collected 19 points to lead all players in the contest. Nadege Durand was a point away from a double-double, as she tallied 9 points and corralled a game-high 10 rebounds.

Grove City opened up the game by scoring the first 10 points. The full court press defense of the Wolverines caused havoc on the Bobcats. UPG netted their first points of the contest seven minutes into the first period on a three pointer by Murphy.

Pitt-Greensburg held the Wolverines scoreless over the next two minutes. Over that stretch, Durand drained a three pointer to bring the Bobcats within four points, 10-6. The four-point margin would be the closest UPG would get for the remainder of the game.

Grove City won the second quarter, 24-10, and took a 36-17 advantage into halftime.

The Wolverines extended their lead to 24, their largest of the game, at the 2:15 mark in the third quarter. Cat Gollihugh
answered by nailing a three pointer to spark a 9-2 Pitt-Greensburg run over the next minute. Gollihugh had five of the nine points over the run.

In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats went on a 6-0 run to get the deficit down to 15 points, the closest they came to the Wolverines in the second half. The six-point swing spanned from 3:53 to 2:11 in the final frame. Durand started the run with a jumper and tallied four of the six points in the run.

Pitt-Greensburg edged out the opponent in second chance points (14-12) and fast break points (14-10), however GCC won the points in the paint (40-24) and points off turnovers (26-12) battle. With the victory, Grove City takes a 7-6 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 1999, between the two institutions.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the hardwood in Chambers Hall on Saturday (Nov. 23) when they welcome Carnegie Mellon to town. The tip-off between the Bobcats and Tartans is set for 2 pm. The game is a part of a doubleheader with the men's program, as they take on Bethany College in their home opener at 4 pm.
