Women’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Finale to Carnegie Mellon

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team dropped its final non-conference matchup of the season to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday (Nov. 23) afternoon by a score of 71-43. The Bobcats record falls to 2-3, while the Tartans improve to 3-3.

Cat Gollihugh was the Bobcats leading scorer with 12 points, all of which coming from behind the three-point arc.

Maddy Coddington began the game with a three pointer to put the Bobcats ahead early. The lead got up to five points when Gollihugh connected from beyond the arc at the 4:37 mark. Carnegie Mellon took the next three minutes and change to take a four-point lead with 1:14 remaining in the first period. Sidney McCully drained a three pointer just before the first quarter horn to make it a one-point game (17-16) after ten minutes.

Cold shooting hurt the Bobcats the rest of the way, as they went 9 for 44 in the final thirty minutes. In the second quarter they didn't score a field goal and the Tartans extended their advantage by 18 points over the second period to make the halftime score 36-17. CMU cruised the rest of the way and reached its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter at the 3:05 mark.

Nadege Durand led the way defensive grabbing eight boards in defeat, while Victoria Foster, Lizzie Penrose, and Ashley Barker each scored their first home collegiate baskets. 

Pitt-Greensburg begins AMCC play on Tuesday (Nov. 26) with an 8 pm home matchup against Franciscan University. UPG has won their first conference game each of the past four seasons, dating back to 2015.
