Women’s Basketball Tripped Up On Late Run By Penn State Behrend

GREENSBURG- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team dropped their AMCC matchup with Penn State Behrend, 66-62, on Saturday (Nov. 30). The Bobcats conference record is now an even 1-1, while their overall goes to 3-4. The Lions move to 5-2 and stay perfect, 3-0, in the AMCC.

Nadege Durand earned herself a double-double for the fifth time this year, grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Shaquoia McCray led the way offensively for Pitt-Greensburg tallying 14 points, while Maddie Sitler hauled down 12 rebounds to join Durand as the leading rebounders for the game. The rebounding duo helped the Bobcats hold a 54-34 advantage on the glass for the game, including a 23-11 advantage on the offensive glass. 

UPG gained an eight-point lead in the first quarter after an 8-0 run from 1:22 to 0:27 in the frame. McCray and Cat Gollihugh each had 3 points on the run.

The Lions battled back in the second quarter and took a one-point lead at the 3:17 mark on a jumper by Ashley Seamon. UPG took it right back less than 20 seconds later and led the remainder of the half. Pitt-Greensburg held 32-29 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.

The third quarter saw Behrend take the lead back for the middle part of period. Pitt-Greensburg ended the final 2:38 of the third stanza on a 7-0 run and Gollihugh's three-pointer with 47 seconds left extended the UPG lead to 47-41 after 30 minutes of play.

Pitt-Greensburg led by as much as eight points in the final quarter of action, but it was Behrend that ended the frame on an 18-6 run to take home the win. After being held to just 11 points over the first 30 minutes of play, Behrend's leading scorer Caitlin Carnuche caught fire in the final quarter totaling 12 points, which included drilling 3-of-4 from behind the three-point arc.

The Bobcats open road play in the AMCC on Wednesday (Dec. 4) when they travel to Penn State Altoona. Tip off for Wednesday's contest is slated for 8 pm.
