Women’s Basketball Falls In AMCC Road Opener At Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball went on the road to Penn State Altoona Wednesday (Dec. 4) night, where the Bobcats dropped a back and forth battle, 62-58, to the Lions. UPG falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in AMCC play, while Altoona evens both their overall and conference record at 3-3 and 1-1 respectively.

Nadege Durand and Maddie Sitler each went for 19 points to lead all scorers. Durand came down with 11 rebounds, as well, to earn herself a double-double for the fifth time this season, while Maddy Coddington added 10 points for the Bobcats.

The first half was nearly the same story each quarter, just reversed. UPG led the from the opening tip until 43 seconds left in the quarter, when the Lions sunk two free throws to tie the game at 14-14. No team scored for the remainder of the period.

In the second quarter, Penn State Altoona scored seven seconds in and led all the way to the 1:03 mark. Maddy Coddington splashed a deep ball to tie the score at 25. The three pointer finished a 5-0 run by the Bobcats to end the half. The score remained deadlocked at 25 heading to the third quarter.

The same story just reversed came about in third and fourth quarters. Durand and Shaquoia McCray opened the half by each making a layup to put the Bobcats out in front by four and start a 13-4 run to begin the third frame. Sitler concluded the run on a three pointer at 2:24 left in the third quarter. The Sitler three made it a 38-29 game, the largest advantage by either team. Pitt-Greensburg got back to up nine when the Harrisburg native struck again 40 seconds later, this time a layup. Penn State Altoona went on a 9-3 run in the final 1:27 of the third to close the quarter down four, 43-39.

Penn State Altoona continued their run that ended the third quarter into the fourth. They made the first seven points of the final 10-minute period to take their first lead of the half. The lead would not be given up the rest of the way. UPG tied the game at 3:05, but the Lions answered by scoring five straight points. With 55 seconds left the Bobcats Sitler scored her fourth consecutive point to bring the game to within one, but the Lions went on to make each of their last six free throw attempts and take the game, 62-58.

Pitt-Greensburg will host D'Youville in an AMCC matchup set for 3 pm this Saturday (Dec. 7).
