Michalek's Overtime Game-Winner Sends Women's Soccer To Saturday's AMCC Championship

GREENSBURG- Tiffany Michalek's overtime game-winning goal gave the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over D'Youville, Wednesday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Semifinal match. Pitt-Greensburg advances to Saturday's AMCC Championship where it will face Penn State Behrend.

Saturday's championship will be played on Pitt-Greensburg's home soil at Ridilla Field, where kickoff is slated for 2 pm.

Michalek headed home a Jenna Conty corner kick into the back right portion of the net for her 18th goal of the season and propelled the Bobcats to their second AMCC Championship appearance in program history, both of which have come under the direction of eighth year head coach Chuck Wigle.

Pitt-Greensburg outshot D'Youville 20-6 on the afternoon, but the Spartans managed to slow down the high paced Bobcat attack for much of the match. D'Youville's game-plan consisted of having most of its players in the defensive third of the field to limit the scoring chances and frustrate its opposing teams.

D'Youville's plan was displayed throughout the afternoon as Pitt-Greensburg managed just three of its 20 attempts on goal in the 90 minutes of regulation.

The Bobcats came close to breaking the scoreless tie in the 58th minute when Ashley Lucas' curling shot drilled the post and stayed out of the back of the net to keep the game scoreless.

Goalkeepers for both sides played well in the match with sophomore goalie Lauren Yoder making four saves in regulation, while Laurie Poeller countered with four stops for D'Youville.

Each netminder made a save in the extra period, but after wining its seventh corner kick of the match and second in OT, Conty put a curling ball into the box that Michalek managed to get a head to and direct the attempt past Poeller for the game-winner.

Ashley Lucas paced the offensive attack with a game-high seven attempts, followed by three from Michalek, two from Andi McGinnis, and one each from Erika Caldo, Allie Grimm, Alexsia Barlamas, Brooke Ianarelli, Elise Stratil, and Alexa Fetterman
