Stellar Free Throw Shooting Helps Men’s Basketball Outlast Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 1:20 to guide them to victory at Penn State Altoona Wednesday evening. The Bobcats outlasted the Lions, 81-74, to start conference play 3-0 for the first time since 2015-16. The Lions drop to 0-2 in the AMCC with the loss and 2-2 overall, while Pitt-Greensburg's overall record is now at 5-1.

Matt Johnson paced the Bobcats scoring with 25 on 10-of-15 shooting and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Torian Jenkins came off the bench to net a career-best14 points. Cam Seigfreid combated his cold shooting night by driving to the hoop and getting to the foul line, where he made all eight of his attempts, ending the night with 12 points. JoJo France was without a miss at the charity stripe as well, making all four of his attempts and finishing with 10 points.

Cody Spaid and Seigfreid led a balanced rebounding effort by the Bobcats with seven each. Nine of the ten players for the Bobcats that saw minutes got a rebound.

Pitt-Greensburg held the lead for most of the beginning of the game. The lead got up to seven on a David Runco three ball just ahead of the nine-minute mark in the opening half. Penn State Altoona answered with a 14-0 run to gain a seven-point advantage of their own at 5:53. France (4) and Jenkins (2) took the next minute and a half to score six points for UPG, while only allowing 1, and get it to a two-point game. Altoona found themselves another spurt to end the half and went to the locker room ahead by seven, 42-35.

A three pointer by the Lions made it a double-digit margin, the only time in the game that occurred. UPG then used a 9-2 run to get it quickly back down to a three-point margin. The squads traded baskets until 13:20 left in the game, that's when Pitt-Greensburg went on a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the second half. Spaid started the run and had four points during the spurt, while Johnson capped it off with a three pointer to put the Bobcats up by three with 10:53 to play.

The lead traded hands four times over the next nine minutes. The final time being a Jenkins lay in to put Pitt-Greensburg ahead, 71-69, at 1:46. The 8-for-8 from the charity stripe ensued for UPG, four by Seigfreid and four by Jenkins, to seal the win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to Chambers Hall on Saturday, to take on D'Youville College. Tip off against the Spartans is scheduled for 1 pm.
