Women's Basketball Takes Down D'Youville In AMCC Action Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team gave the D'Youville Spartans their first loss in an AMCC contest on Saturday (Dec. 7). A big run in the third quarter helped propel UPG to the 72-65 victory. The Bobcats improve their record to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference. D'Youville now sits at 5-4 and 3-1 in the AMCC. 

 Maddy Coddington earned her first career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, both a career high. Coddington added 5 assists to her stat line, tying Maddie Sitler for the team-high. Sitler poured in a game-high 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting and came down with eight rebounds. Cat Gollihugh sank four three pointers and ended with 13 points on the afternoon. 

Pitt-Greensburg scored the first five points of the game, and would hold the lead for the entire first quarter. The Bobcats held a 21-18 edge heading into the second stanza.   

The lead turned over to D'Youville at the seven-minute mark in the second period.The advantage would remain with the visitors for the final seven minutes of the second period and the Spartans would take a six-point advantage (38-32) into the halftime intermission.  

The Spartans obtained their largest lead of the game, 42-32, at 8:07 in the third quarter, but the Bobcats used the next six minutes to storm back and take the lead, 49-47, thanks to a 17-5 run. Shaquoia McCray led the Bobcats during the run, as she racked up nine of her eventual 11 points during that span. Gollihugh started the spurt with a three pointer and tallied six points during the spurt. 

The Bobcats finished the third quarter off with four more points and allowed just one to head into the final quarter ahead by five, 53-48. 

The game got tied at 7:21 in the final frame, but UPG scored the next five points and would remain in the lead for the remainder of the contest The Bobcat advantage got to 10 (70-60) for the first-time at 41 seconds and then ten seconds later Colleen Murphy swished two free throws to make it 12, the largest of the game. 

Pitt-Greensburg will travel to New York for a matchup with Hilbert College on Saturday (Dec. 14). The tip for the UPG's third road game of the year is scheduled for 4 pm.
