Women's Basketball Totals Season-High 14 Steals In Loss At Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (6-16, 5-10 AMCC) totaled a season-best 14 steals, but lost 51-35 at Mt. Aloysius (7-15, 7-8 AMCC), in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest Wednesday evening inside the Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center.

The 14 steals ties the most in a single game under second-year head coach Hayley Schaetzle. The Bobcats also tallied 14 thefts against both Westminster and Medaille last season.

Nadege Durand led the way for the Bobcats with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals. Of the 11 rebounds that Durand pulled down, six were on the offensive glass. Wednesday's game was the eighth time this season that the sophomore forward has grabbed more rebounds on the offensive glass as opposed to the defensive end.

Maddie Sitler also reached double-digits, posting 12 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and also grabbed eight boards and dished out an assist.

Although she was held scoreless, Sam Ballow provided a spark on the defensive end, totaling four steals. As a team, Pitt-Greensburg made things tough for the Mounties, forcing 20 turnovers.

Breana Kendrick paced the Mounties with a game-high 15 points, followed by Machala Gibbons who posted a triple-double that consisted of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Pitt-Greensburg led for virtually the entire first quarter and Maddy Coddington's three-pointer with 3:42 remaining put the Bobcats up 15-6. Gibbons tallied the final points of the quarter with just over a minute left to cut the Mountie deficit to six (15-6) at the end of the opening 10 minutes.

The Bobcats remained ahead on the scoreboard for much of the second period, but with 42 seconds left until halftime, Rachel Robinson's jumper tied the contest at 21 and Gibbons' bucket right before the buzzer put the Mounties ahead 23-21 at the halftime intermission.

The lead would change hands once again early on in the third period. Aloysius extended its lead to 26-21 on a three by Kendrick, but the Bobcats answered with an 8-0 spurt, which was capped by Durand's old-fashioned three-point play. Durand hit a jumper, drew a foul, and proceeded to hit the free-throw to put Pitt-Greensburg ahead 29-26 with just over five minutes left in the third.

Defensively, Mt. Aloysius managed to hold the Bobcats without a point for the final 5:17 of the period and on the offensive end, rally off a 6-0 run as the Mounties held a 32-29 advantage heading into the fourth.

Pitt-Greensburg regrouped at the break and ended its scoreless streak just 15 seconds into the final stanza on a bucket from Sitler. Gibbons hit a jumper and Durand answered with a layup of her own, as the contest was just a one-point game (34-33) with 8:35 left in the final period.

Following the Bobcat layup, the Mounties drilled a three pointer on consecutive trips down the floor and Robinson hit a layup as the Mounties extended their lead to 42-33 with just under seven minutes left. Mount Aloysius outscored Pitt-Greensburg 19-6 in the final quarter of action and would go on for a 51-35 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns home for its next contest Saturday afternoon, playing host to Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.
