GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team (7-16, 6-10 AMCC) used a 22-point halftime lead and held off a late fourth quarter charge from Penn State Behrend (9-14, 7-9 AMCC) en route to a 72-67 victory in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon inside the Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated the opening 20 minutes of play hitting 16-of-37 from the field and 4-of-12 from three, while the defense limited Behrend to just 7-of-19 from the floor. Behrend cut the deficit to single digits early in the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats managed to hold off the charge behind a dominating performance on the boards. Pitt-Greensburg outrebounded the Lions 38-33, but held a commanding 16-6 advantage on the offensive glass, which they converted into 13 second chance points.

Nadege Durand led three players in double-figures for Pitt-Greensburg totaling a game-high 23 points, 16 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Maddie Sitler added 19 points, while Sam Ballow notched 12 points, four rebounds, and dished out four assists.

As a team, Pitt-Greensburg did a great job distributing the basketball, totaling 19 assists on 28 made field goals. On the defensive end, Pitt-Greensburg stifled the Lions, forcing 20 turnovers, which it converted into 18 points, compared to just nine for Behrend.

Kara Haslett led Behrend with 20 points on 6-of-14 from the floor and hit 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 6-0 advantage, but the Bobcats responded with an 8-0 run, which was capped by two free-throws by Ballow. Pitt-Greensburg remained ahead for the rest of the first quarter and Sitler's three put the Bobcats up 18-11 at the end of the opening stanza.

The Bobcats dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Lions 22-7 and went into the halftime break leading by 22 (40-18).

Pitt-Greensburg increased its lead to 23 on Colleen Murphy's layup with 2:37 left in the third quarter, but the Lions reeled off a 10-0 spurt over the remainder of the quarter to cut the deficit to 13 (55-42) heading into the final stanza.

Alanna Dibble's layup got Behrend within six points late in the fourth, but Sitler responded with a huge three pointer to put the Bobcats back up nine and Pitt-Greensburg would go on for the 72-67 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Wednesday, playing host to Franciscan in its regular-season home finale. Wednesday's tip-off against the Barons is set for 6 pm.
