Prentice's Two-Hitter Lifts Baseball Past Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD- Andy Prentice tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout to lift the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team (9-15, 6-4 AMCC) to a 1-0 victory over Pitt-Bradford (14-10, 7-5 AMCC), in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Pitt-Bradford earned the split of the twin-bill with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap, despite eight strong innings from Matt Mish, where he allowed just six hits and struck out six.

Pitt-Greensburg pitchers dominated both games on the mound, limiting the Panthers to just a .182 batting average over the 16 innings play.

Offensively, Ben Green led the way with three hits, followed by two hits each from Chris Common and Tyler Holland.

In the top of the second inning, Derek Shaw drew a five-pitch walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Jordan Cavanaugh struck out to end the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Austin Parent smacked a leadoff single, but Prentice got three-straight groundouts to escape the jam.

Mish saw seven pitches in his fourth-inning at-bat and on the eighth pitch drew a walk, which was followed by a single to right field by Common, advancing Mish over to third base. Unfortunately despite having runners at first and third, Shaw grounded out to second base to end the inning.

Both teams remained scoreless heading into the second inning. Green belted an 0-2 pitch to right center and advanced into scoring position on a balk. On a 1-2 pitch, Holland smacked a single to right field which scored Green to put the Bobcats in the lead.

Prentice sent the Panthers down 1-2-3 in the sixth and the Bobcats were unable to take advantage of a one-out single by Cavanaugh, which brought Bradford to the plate for their final three outs of the game.

Jake McNabb drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a two-out wild pitch, but Prentice buckled down and struck out Sawer Packard to send Pitt-Greensburg to the 1-0 shutout victory.

Both teams struggled to get its offense going against the starting pitchers for both teams, but Pitt-Bradford finally broke through in the sixth inning as Justin Dattoli scored on a wild pitch.

The Bobcats would come right back in the top of the seventh and tie the game at one on a run by Griffin Clark. Clark singled to begin the inning and moved over to second when Kiester was hit by a pitch. The freshman infielder moved over to third on a sac bunt by DeRoss and came around to tie the game when a ground ball from Bonadio was misplayed.

The Panthers once again took the lead with a run in the eighth, but in their final at-bats of the afternoon, Kister scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Pitt-Bradford got back-to-back singles to begin the ninth and Austin Parent was intentionally walked to load the bases. Mikey Sullivan struck out
McNabb for the first out of the inning, but the ball got away from the catcher and Locarelli would score on a wild pitch to lift the Panthers to the 1-0 victory.
