Men's Tennis Falls In Tight 5-4 Decision At Penn State Behrend Saturday Afternoon

ERIE- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 matchup at Penn State Behrend Saturday Afternoon.

Behrend jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after taking two of the three doubles matches. The pairing of Turner Price and Vaughn Hunkele put the Bobcats on the board with an 8-4 victory in the top spot. The Bobcat duo earned their fourth-straight victory and improves to 5-1 in conference play.

Price carried the momentum into singles action and made quick work of Brent McFarland in the top spot. Price won 6-0, 6-1 to record his sixth-straight win and improves his overall record to 10-3 on the season.

Hunkele forced a third-set tiebreak at #3 singles, but would come up short in the final set, 10-6. Hunkele dropped the opening set 7-6, but regrouped and forced a winner-take-all tiebreak with a 6-3 victory in set two.

Michael Meyer picked up a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set victory at #2 singles and Terrance Madarish outlasted James Lobdell in the #4 match. Madarish won the opening set 6-4, but lost 7-5 in set two, which forced a third-set tiebreak. Madarish gave the Bobcats the point with a 10-6 win in the extra set.

Behrend picked up wins in the final two singles matches and would hold on for the tightly-contested 5-4 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action next Saturday (April 13) when it takes on Geneva College in a non-conference match at 1 pm.
