Common's Three Home Runs Spur Pitt-Greensburg Baseball Past St. Vincent

GREENSBURG- Chris Common tied a single-game school record with three home runs as the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team (14-19) tied a season-high with 20 hits as it defeated St. Vincent (19-17) 15-4, in the regular-season home finale Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

Common belted three home runs in the victory, tying Tim Grum, who also smacked three homers at Waynesburg on March 24, 2000. The senior outfielder now leads the team with seven home runs, which is tied for the third most in the conference.

The 20 hits for Pitt-Greensburg ties it season-high, which it set this past Saturday against D'Youville.

In Wednesday's victory for the Bobcats, Dylan DeRoss, Tyler Holland, Common, and Evan Johnston all had three hits, while Common led the way with six RBI, followed by three from Holland.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first, as DeRoss put the Bobcats in front 1-0 as he scored on a ground ball fielders choice from Common.

St. Vincent tied the game with a run in the third, but in the bottom of the inning, Common belted the first of his three long balls on the afternoon to put Pitt-Greensburg back in front.

The Bearcats had their best offensive inning in the fifth as they brought eight batters to the plate and scratched across three runs on two hits.

The lead would not last long as Common belted a three-run bomb to put the home side in front for good.

Pitt-Greensburg added five runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth as it would roll to a 15-4 win.

The Bobcats return to action this weekend when it travels to face Penn State Altoona Saturday afternoon in the first round of the AMCC Tournament. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 1 pm followed game two at 4 pm.
