Volleyball Drops Two At Home Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team dropped its opening match of the day by a score of 3-0 and pushed Shenandoah to the brink, but would come up short, falling in five sets (3-2).

The Bobcats got off to a slow start against Mt. St. Joseph, who moved to 7-1 on the season as the Lions won in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-18.

In the second match of the day, Pitt-Greensburg won the second and third sets after dropping the first set 25-17. Shenandoah would force a winner-take-all fifth set with a 25-15 win in set four, but ultimately it was the Hornets that would outlast the Bobcats 16-14 in the final stanza.

Offensively, Mackenzie Schropp and Emma Halutick each totaled 18 kills to lead Pitt-Greensburg, while Alexis Ray followed with 17. Emma Dongilli paced the Bobcat attack with 76 aces, while Kassi Niver led with 39 digs, followed by 27 from Schropp and 18 from Dongilli.

In the two matches, Pitt-Greensburg posted a .104 attack percentage and averaged 10.5 kills per set.

In the match against the Hornets, the Bobcats tallied 57 kills compared to just 50 for Shenandoah, but it was 28 errors that would prove costly in the five-set loss.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Wednesday evening, playing host to Waynesburg at 7 pm.
