Men’s Tennis Comes Up Short At Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team came up just short at Westminster, falling 5-4 to the Titans Saturday in a non-conference match.

Pitt-Greensburg held a 4-3 advantage with two singles matches remaining, but it was the Titans that pulled out wins at #2 and #6 singles as the home side would record a 5-4 comeback win.

Turner Price and Vaughn Hunkele picked up the lone win for Pitt-Greensburg in doubles play in the #1 match. The Bobcat duo would record an 8-7 win as the match would go into a tiebreak, but it was Price and Hunkele that would prevail 12-10.

Price pulled out a win in the top singles match, but it would require a third-set tiebreak. Price won the opening set 6-3, but fell in set two, 2-6. Ultimately, Price regrouped and won the tiebreak 10-6.

Hunkele also picked up a win for Pitt-Greensburg at #3 singles, rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set win.

Andrew Oden also was victorious in a third-set tiebreak for the Bobcats. Oden dropped the opening stanza 5-7, but forced a winner-take-all third set with a 6-4 win. The Pitt-Greensburg junior would come out on top 10-6 in the tirebreak to give the Bobcats the point.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the courts tomorrow afternoon, playing host to Pitt-Bradford at 1 pm.
