Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Mounties

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team rolled past the Mount Aloysius Mounties, 85-61, behind a career night by Torian Jenkins on Tuesday (Jan. 15) evening inside Chambers Hall. The Bobcats (12-2, 8-1) extend their win streak to five and stay a perfect 8-0 at home. Meanwhile, the Mounties fall to an even 7-7 on the season and 4-5 in the AMCC. 

Jenkins notched a career high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. JoJo France made his last six shots, including three triples on his way to a team best 23 points, while Matt Johnson and Cody Spaid added 16 and 14 respectively.  

Pitt-Greensburg came out and scored 20 of the first 28 points over the opening eight minutes of the game. UPG connected on nine of their first 11 field goal attempts to start the game.  

The Bobcats went on a 10-4 run from 5:27 to 53 seconds during the end of the first half to go up 20 points (42-22) for the first time. Mount Aloysius made a jumper with five seconds before the first half horn to make it 42-24 at the break.  

The Mounties came out of the locker room and went on an 11-3 run to cut the Bobcat lead down to 10 points (45-35). Mount Aloysius got as close as they would in the half at 54-49, with 8:06 left in the game. 

With 7:08 to play and the score at 56-50 Spaid made a layup which began a 12-0 run by UPG. France capped off the run with a three pointer at the 5:38 mark to make it 68-50 in favor of Pitt-Greensburg. France had seven of the 12 points during the spurt and the Bobcats were 5-for-5 from the field over the minute and a half span. 

UPG stayed hot after the twelve-point push and finished the game making six of their final eight shots, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. 

The Bobcat lead got back above 20 at 3:21 and their largest lead of the contest came with 1:35 when Brady Kingston drained a three ball to make it 84-58 (26 points). 

UPG, who led the entire game, shot a 52.5 % (32-61) from the field, including 80% (4-for-5) from beyond the arc in the second half. 

Spaid led the Bobcats on the boards and in assists with six of each. 

Julian Stover led the Mounties and all scorers with 24 points. 

Pitt-Greensburg will round out their first trip through conference opponents on Saturday (Jan. 18). The Bobcats will take on the Alfred State Pioneers (4-10, 2-7) in Alfred, NY, tip-off is slated for 1 pm.
