ERIE, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team went on the road and defeated Penn State Behrend, 65-52, avenging a four-point loss to the Lions earlier this year. The win is the Bobcats first at Penn State Behrend since February 21, 2015.
Nadege Durand scored a season-high 26 points on 10 of 20 shooting, including 4-for-7 from behind the three-point line.
Pitt-Greensburg improves to 11-8 overall and 9-5 in AMCC play, while Penn State Behrend drops to 11-7 and 8-5 in conference.
Maddy Coddington hauled in 10 rebounds to lead UPG, who held a +23 advantage on the boards. The Bobcats owned the offensive glass 23-6, and were led by Durand pulled down five of her nine boards on the offensive end.
Just over three and a half minutes into the game the score was knotted at six. A 9-4 spurt by the Bobcats, capped off by a Durand three pointer at 2:04, gave UPG a five-point lead. The Lions scored two unanswered deep balls in the closing minutes of the first frame to lead 16-15 after 10 minutes.
For the first six minutes of the second quarter the Blue and Gold took over with a 15-2 run. Shaquoia McCray made the final bucket of the half to make give Pitt-Greensburg their largest lead of the game to that point (13 points, 34-21). UPG held Penn State Behrend to 2-for-10 shooting during the second quarter, including an 0-for-5 mark from behind the arc.
Penn State Behrend cut UPG's lead down to three at 5:46 in the third quarter, but Cat Gollihugh immediately responded with a three pointer and the Bobcats took the rest of the frame to go up 10 points (45-35) after three quarters.
With just under four and a half minutes to play, it was a three-point game (51-48), but the Bobcats pulled away with a 14-4 run to end the game.
Maddie Sitler finished the game with 11 points for Pitt-Greensburg.
The Bobcats shot 31.8% (7-22) from three and held the Lion offense to 15.4% from behind the three-point arc. (4-26).
Pitt-Greensburg will make another trip to the northern border of Pennsylvania on Saturday (Feb. 1), when they go to Pitt-Bradford. The Bobcats convincingly won their first head-to-head back on January 4th, 65-40. Tip off Saturday is slated for 3 pm.
