Women Basketball Rolls Past Pitt-Bradford For 65-40 Win

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid when they took down the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford 65-40 on Saturday (Jan. 4). The Bobcats improve their record to 5-7 and 3-4 in the AMCC, while the Panthers drop to 2-9 and 2-4.

Colleen Murphy paced the Bobcats in the scoring column with 14 points and nine rebounds, five of which were the offensive end. Maddie Sitler added 11 points, while Shaquoia McCray hauled down a game-best 11 rebounds and was one point away from a double-double with nine points.

Twelve seconds into the game Murphy made a jumper inside the paint and the Bobcats never looked back. Pitt-Greensburg never gave up the lead from that point all the way until the final buzzer en route to their third 20-plus point victory of the season.

The Panthers tied the contest at nine with 6:20 remaining in the first quarter. That would be as close as Pitt-Bradford would ever get, and was the lone tie of the game. Nadege Durand made a bucket to put Pitt-Greensburg up 14-11 at 2:52 in the first and no one would score for the rest of the first frame.

The Bobcats went on an 11-3 run over the first seven minutes of the second quarter to go up 25-14. That 11-point lead, which was obtained on a Lizzie Penrose three-pointer, which was the largest of the half. Pitt-Bradford ended the half on a 7-0 run to close the gap to 25-21, in favor of the Bobcats, at the break.

The teams traded baskets for the most part of the third quarter. Pitt-Greensburg went on a 9-2 run from 3:29 to 1:22 to get their lead back up to double digits, 43-32. Following that up with a 7-2 run to close the quarter put the Bobcats up by 16 (50-34), their largest advantage of the afternoon to the point.

Sidney McCully made a three pointer at 7:36 in the fourth quarter to stretch the UPG lead to 20 points for the firt time. Capping off a 15-2 run to start the final frame, McCray made a layup at 2:49 to make it a 29-point game (65-36), the largest lead of the game. The Bobcats outscored the Panthers 40-19 in the second half.

Pitt-Greensburg held a slight edge on the glass, 48-44. On the offensive end however, UPG pulled down 20 rebounds compared to UPB's nine offensive boards. The Bobcats forced 24 turnovers and cashed in the extra possessions into 28 points.

A trip to Medaille College awaits the Bobcats on Saturday (Jan 11). Tip-off is slated for 3 pm in Buffalo, NY against the 0-12, 0-7 Mavericks.
