Men’s Basketball Fends Off Mt. Aloysius In Defensive Slugfest

RESSON, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team outlasted Mount Aloysius, 60-54, in a defensive battle on Wednesday night inside the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center on the campus of Mount Aloysius in their final road game of the regular season.

Mount Aloysius led the game by one point after the opening 20 minutes, but a 41-34 second half propelled the Bobcats to victory. 60 points scored is the lowest final mark by UPG all season, but they combated that by allowing a season low 54 points.

JoJo France was the game's leading scorer with 19 points off of six made three pointers, which was the third time sinking three long balls in a game this season. Cam Seigfreid dropped in 15 points, as the lone other Bobcat in double figures.

Pitt-Greensburg (19-4, 15-3) finishes their regular season road slate with an 8-4 record. Mount Aloysius gets their season record evened at 11-11 and drop to 8-9 in the AMCC with the loss.

Pitt-Greensburg netted the first basket of the game and went on to get out to an early 7-1 lead at the 15:40 mark. Mount Aloysius came back to take their first lead of the contest at 9:02, when they went up 11-10. The teams each dropped in a basket and then the Mounties made two straight and led for all of the remaining 7:26 of the first half.

Each team struggled shooting in the first half, with UPG shooting 25% and Mount Aloysius 24%. The 19 points was the fewest in a half by the Bobcats this season.

The second half started as a back and forth battle. The turning point in the game came after the Mounties went up 45-44 with 5:42 left. Brady Kingston answered with a lay-up, which sparked a 10-0 run by the Bobcats, the largest run by either team in the game. France had five points during the spurt and it was finished off a Seigfreid jumper to put the Bobcats up nine (54-45), their largest lead of the game.

Cody Spaid ended the game with 13 rebounds to lead all players.

The Bobcats return to their home hardwood for their final two games of the regular season. Pitt-Greensburg plays host to Alfred State on Saturday (Feb. 15). The Bobcats won the first meeting, 79-68. Pitt-Greensburg's seven seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's 1 pm tip.
