CRESSON, PA- Pitt-Greensburg used a 24-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter of action to propel it to an 80-60 victory at Mt. Aloysius Wednesday evening in the final road contest of the season, inside the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
With the victory, Pitt-Greensburg has now won five-straight contests and improves to 15-8 overall and 13-5 inside AMCC Play, while Mt. Aloysius falls to 4-18 and 3-14 in conference action.
Four Bobcats scored in double-figures, led by Shaquoia McCray who totaled a game-high 18 points and had a monster of a game on the boards, pulling down 17 rebounds, 10 of which she hauled down on the offensive glass. Nadege Durand followed with 16 points and six rebounds, Sidney McCully added 11 off the bench, and Colleen Murphy notched 10 in the scoring column.
Aiding the Bobcats in the win was a monster rebounding game on both ends of the court, as they held a commanding 46-27 advantage on the glass, including a 22-4 domination on the offensive end. The Bobcats turned those extra possessions into a 10-4 advantage in second chance points and a 26-18 lead inside the paint.
Mt. Aloysius came out of the gates quickly and raced out to a 10-2 lead just under two minutes into the contest and the home side continued to hold the advantage until the 4:50 mark, when McCray connected on a free-throw to tie things up at 15. Following the free-throw, Pitt-Greensburg ripped off six-straight points and would never trail again in the contest.
Murphy's jumper with under a minute left in the opening stanza put the Bobcats up six (23-17), which they would take into the second period.
UPG remained ahead on the scoreboard for the entire second quarter, leading by as much as 13 on three different occasions, and took a 44-35 advantage into the halftime intermission.
Pitt-Greensburg came out of halftime and had a dominating third period, outscoring the Mounties 24-7 to put the game out of reach. The Bobcats held Mt. Aloysius to just two points in the opening six minutes of the frame and defensively held the home side to just 3-of-13 from the field in the third 10-minute frame.
Mt. Aloysius managed to outscore UPG 18-12 in the final period, but Pitt-Greensburg completed the season-sweep of the Mounties with a dominating 80-60 win.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday (Feb. 15) at 3 pm, playing host to Alfred State for Senior Day. Prior to Saturday's tip-off, Colleen Murphy will be recognized during a pre-game ceremony.
