Women's Tennis Advances To AMCC Championship With 5-1 Win Over Penn State Altoona

WEXFORD, PA - The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's tennis team advanced to the 2021 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship with a 5-1 win over fourth seeded Penn State Altoona in the semifinals this afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club.


Doubles:

Cathryn Rossi and Isabella Lane teamed up in the #1 doubles position, and got the Bobcats off to a great start with an 8-0 win.

Pitt-Greensburg extended the lead to 2-0 with another 8-0 whitewash behind the rackets of Abigail Rosman and Amber Sterrett in the #2 match.

Penn State Altoona fended off the sweep with an 8-3 win in the third doubles match.


Singles:

The Bobcats earned three wins in singles to clinch the semifinal victory, leaving the other three singles matches abandoned after securing the win.

Rosman picked up the first win, in the #2 spot, by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Sterrett and Mariah Ulery finished off the win and sent Pitt-Greensburg into the championship with two double bagel victories.

Rossi, Lane, and Kelsey Murphy were all leading in their matches before the match was clinched by the Bobcats.


Pitt-Greensburg awaits the winner of #2 Penn State Behrend and #3 Medaille in the championship. The finals will be tomorrow at 1:30 pm back inside the Oxford Athletic Club.
