Women's Soccer Ends Regular Season With Fifth Straight Shutout

YOUNGWOOD, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team won their regular season finale over La Roche University, 5-0, this afternoon at Westmoreland County Community College.

The Bobcats clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoffs with the win. They finished with a 15-2 overall record, while going 7-1 in conference play. La Roche finishes with a 5-10-1 overall record and 3-4-1 mark in the AMCC.

Pitt-Greensburg came out on a mission, netting five goals in the first half including two in the first ten minutes of the match. Tiffany Michalek kicked things off with her 21st goal of the season in the third minute of the game off a pass from Hayley Felix.

Michalek was right back in on the action about five minutes later when she set up Sarah Tonkovich for the Bobcats second goal.

In the middle of the half, Pitt-Greensburg extended its lead by two more with goals from Ashley Lucas and Emily Bonelli, who fielded an assist pass from Michalek.

Just before the halftime horn, Alexz Rosser netted her fourth goal of the season to make it 5-0 Bobcats.

Pitt-Greensburg kept that lead intact for the entirety of the second half to secure the win. They remained in possession of the ball from kickoff until the final horn, having only allowed the Redhawks to get one shot off, while firing 16 towards the La Roche net. On the back lines, Pitt-Greensburg drew 12 corner kicks and surrendered just one.

Lauren Yoder started in net for the Blue and Gold and went 63-plus minutes before being relieved by Paige John. Yoder saved the Redhawks only shot on goal of the game.

The Bobcats have ended the regular season on a six-game win streak, and have not allowed a goal in the past five matches. The defense has allowed just five shots and two shots on goal in the last four games.

Pitt-Greensburg only allowed one goal to a conference opponent for the second consecutive AMCC season. The lone goal this year given up to an AMCC foe was in the 1-0 loss to Penn State Behrend, all seven of the other matchups have been shutouts.

Title defense of the AMCC Tournament Championship will begin next Wednesday for Pitt-Greensburg at 2 pm on Ridilla Field. The Bobcats received a first round bye, as the #2 seed, and will take on the winner of Saturday's 3v6 game in Wednesday's semifinal.
