Women's Tennis Earns Second Straight AMCC Regular Season Title With 8-1 Win Over Penn State Altoona

Box Score ALTOONA, PA - The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's tennis team secured their second consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Regular Season Championship this evening, with an 8-1 win over Penn State Altoona. 

The Bobcats finish off a perfect conference play record, at 6-0, with the win and move to 8-2 overall on the season.

Doubles:

Pitt-Greensburg set the tone for the day with a clean sweep, 3-0, in doubles play.

Cathryn Rossi / Isabella Lane and Abigail Rosman / Amber Sterrett whitewashed their opponents, 8-0, in the #1 and #2 matches.

Miranda Berkebile and Kelsey Murphy finished off the doubles portion of the match with an 8-4 victory, putting the Bobcats two singles wins away from the regular season crown.


Singles:

The Lions showed fight in the #1 singles match and claimed a point with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Pitt-Greensburg put an end to any thought of a comeback with straight set wins in the next five faceoffs. 

Rossi won the #2 match via a 6-3, 6-1 win. Rosman, Mariah Ulery, Sterrett, and Lane took care of business by not losing a game in the final four matchups of the day.

Rosman's win clinched the AMCC regular season title in the #3 position. The 2021 Bobcats are the third AMCC regular season champions in program history, joining the 2020 and 2015 teams.


Pitt-Greensburg will host a non-conference match against Saint Vincent on Sunday at the Greensburg Racquet Club. First service is set for 12:30 pm, a Senior Day celebration will take place before the match.

The AMCC Championship will take place October 16-17 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, PA. Pitt-Greensburg will be the #1 seed for the second consecutive year and will be in search of their first tournament championship in program history.
