Women's Soccer Falls In AMCC Championship, 2-0, to Penn State Behrend

ERIE, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team came up just short of a championship repeat this afternoon in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Game. The top seeded Penn State Behrend Lions won gold over the Bobcats, 2-0, today on their home turf.

Penn State Behrend scored two first half goals, in the 13th and 36th minutes, and stymied the high-powered Pitt-Greensburg offense to win the championship.

Pitt-Greensburg was only able to muster four shots on the afternoon, with two in each period. Tiffany Michalek and Ashley Lucas had two shots apiece, with Michalek getting both of hers on net but were saved by the Lions goalkeeper.

Lauren Yoder made five saves over her complete game in goal, however the Lions were able place two shots just out of her reach.

The Bobcats were able to earn eight corner kicks versus the Lions four, but could not capitalize.

The defensive battle got physical throughout the game, as 25 total fouls were called, 13 on Penn State Behrend and 12 on the Blue and Gold.

While not the result Pitt-Greensburg wanted today, the team can be proud of the success they accomplished throughout the 2021 campaign. They finished with a 16-3 record and made their second consecutive appearance in the AMCC title match. The Bobcats had the top three goal scorers in the conference, with Michalek leading at 22, while Emily Bonelli and Lucas scored 14 times this season. A record-breaking milestone was eclipsed this season by senior goalkeeper, Lauren Yoder, who finishes her career with the all-time lead in shutouts. Over the course of the year, Pitt-Greensburg also had six player of the week honorees by the AMCC.
