BRADFORD, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team cruised past Pitt-Bradford, 105-52, in its return to the court after having back-to-back games postponed. The Bobcats eclipsed the century mark for the fifth time in program history and earned their largest win since January 18, 2010, when they beat Hilbert 86-24.
Pitt-Greensburg improves to 2-0 in AMCC play and 6-1 overall. All six victories have come by double digits. The Panthers fall to 2-9 and 0-3 in the conference.
It was a wire-to-wire victory for Pitt-Greensburg, as they stormed out to a 26-12 lead after the first quarter and never lifted their foot off the gas pedal. They led 61-28 at halftime and continued the steam rolling on way to the largest win in almost 11 years. The advantage got as large as 58, 102-44, after Lizzie Penrose nailed a three-pointer to put the Bobcats over the century mark at the five-minute mark in the final quarter.
Shaquoia McCray posted a career-high with 23 points and recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. Nadege Durand led all scorers with 24 points, while Maddie Sitler and Melina Maietta had 14 apiece and Sidney McCully dropped 11. McCully also had her second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats shot 53.8 percent from the field on a season-high 42-for-78 shooting. Most of the scoring came from the inside, with 62 points in the paint. Maietta paced the outside shooting with three triples. The Panthers were held to 25.8 percent shooting by the lockdown Pitt-Greensburg defense. That defense forced 22 Pitt-Bradford turnovers which were converted into 34 Bobcat points.
Pitt-Greensburg pulled down a season-most 60 rebounds and won the battle on the glass with a +29-rebounding margin. They also dished out a season-high of 22 assists, McCully had six and Durand passed for five.
Qitarah Hardison led the Bobcat reserves with six points on 3-of-6 shooting.
The Bobcats will be in action one more time before the calendar year changes. They will travel to Jersey City, New Jersey to take on New Jersey City University on December 30. Tip-off is slated for 1 pm.
