Sullivan’s Strong Start Sends Pitt-Greensburg Baseball To Split At Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio- Mikey Sullivan's strong start on the mound sent the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team to a split of a doubleheader with Hiram Monday afternoon in a non-conference twinbill.

Monday's twinbill was the first road contests of the season for the Bobcats as they opened the 2021 campaign with eight-straight home contests.

Hiram took the first of two games on Monday by a score of 9-4, but behind a strong starting performance from Sullivan, Pitt-Greensburg earned the split with a 5-3 win.

Sullivan tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just three runs on six hits and struck out four to earn his first win of the year. Andy Prentice came in relief of Sullivan in the bottom of the sixth and struck out the final batter of the game.

Notables
  • Randy Hubbard went 4-for-8 with a two runs, a home run, and an RBI
  • Hubbard's home run was the first of the season for Pitt-Greensburg
  • Sullivan, Jacob Davey, and Jace Cappellini each collected three hits for the Bobcats.
  • Jordan Cavanaugh went 2-for-2 with a run, a double, and drove in two RBI.
  • Following Monday's games, Davey and Hubbard are now batting an even .500 on the season.

Game Two- Pitt-Greensburg 5, Hiram 3
Following a scoreless first inning by both teams, Pitt-Greensburg took the lead in the second. Davey and Sullivan collected one-out singles and Will Thorp drew a walk to load the bases. Cavanaugh would then come through with a single to short, which scored Davey to put the Bobcats up by a run.

Hubbard continued his hot start to the season with a leadoff home run in the fourth to extend the UPG lead to 2-0.

Pitt-Greensburg as at it again in the fifth as Cavanaugh smacked a leadoff double and would later come around to score on a ground ball from Ben Green.

Hiram got a run back in the fifth, but the Bobcats answered with two runs in the sixth from Cavanaugh and Chandler Goodwin.

The Terriers plated two runs in the seventh and loaded the bases with two outs and brought the winning run to the plate, but Prentice struck out Adams to send the Bobcats to the 5-3 win.

Game One- Pitt-Greensburg 4, Hiram 9
Hiram struck first with three runs in the home half of the first inning, but the Bobcats came right back in the second and answered with a run on an RBI fielders choice from Dylan DeRoss.

The Terriers extended their lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame and would once again add to their advantage with two more runs in the fourth.

UPG had a productive offensive inning in the fifth as Cappellini doubled home Bonadio and later came around to score on Hubbard's ground ball to third base.

Pitt-Greensburg added a run in the seventh on a base hit from Sullivan, but the Terriers would go on for the 9-4 win.
