Baseball Has Season End With Losses At Mt. Aloysius In AMCC Tournament

CRESSON- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team had its second end Saturday afternoon as it lost two games in a best-of-three series to Mt. Aloysius, in the first round of the AMCC Tournament. Pitt-Greensburg dropped the first game of the day by a score of 9-7 and would come up just short in game two, falling 3-2.

In game two, Pitt-Greensburg and Mt. Aloysius were tied at two heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Mounties scrapped across which turned out to be the game winner.

Pitt-Greensburg ends the season batting .354 as a team, which breaks the school record for batting average in a season. The previous record was .352, which was set during the 2010 season.

Notables
  • Pitt-Greensburg batted .356 as a team, totaling 26 hits, nine runs, two doubles, and nine RBI
  • Pitt-Greensburg pitchers held Mt. Aloysius to a .317 average, with 20 hits, 12 runs, four doubles, and two triples.
  • Mikey Sullivan started game two and tossed five solid innings, allowing two runs (0 earned) on five hits and struck out three.
  • Andy Prentice came on in relief on Sullivan and allowed one run on two hits in three innings
  • Tony Iannuzzo went the distance in game one, giving up five earned and struck out two.
  • Will Thorp paced the UPG offense going 4-for-8 with two RBI
  • Paul Tumicki put together his best performance at the plate in his final game wearing a Bobcat uniform, posting a career-best three hits, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 7, Mt. Aloysius 9

Pitt-Greensburg outhit Mt. Alosyius in game one holding a 15-13 advantage, but the two errors defensively would be cost.

The Bobcats got off to a great start jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in their first at-bats. Bonadio led off the inning with a double down the right field line and Cappellini smacked a one-out double down the left field line to score the first run of the contest. Davey drove home Cappellini with a base hit and both Carson and Tumicki would also drove in runs.

The Mounties got two runs back in the bottom of the second, but UPG put together four hits in the third, which resulted in two runs to push its advantage to 6-2.

Aloysius would once again plate a run in the fourth, but in the top of the fifth, Thorp scored Carson with a base hit to right field, but Mount added three runs in the fifth and sixth and would go on for the 9-7 win in game one.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 2, Mt. Aloysius 3
The Bobcats totaled 11 hits in game two and held the Mounties two just seven base-hits, but UPG committed three errors defensively, compared to two for Mount.

Following a scoreless first inning for both teams, Mount Aloysius scratched across a run in the second for a 1-0 lead, but the Bobcats got the run right back in the third on a base hit from Hubbard, which scored Bonadio.

The Mounties added a second run of the game in the home half of the fourth, but Devin Renzi would plate Hubbard in the fifth to tie the game up.

The game would remain deadlocked at two until the bottom of the eighth when Mt. Aloysius finally would break the tie with a sacrifice fly to left field to take a 3-2 lead to the ninth.

Bonadio led off the ninth inning with a single to right center and DeRoss put down a great sacrifice bunt to advance Bonadio into scoring position, but Douglas Cannon got Cappellini and Hubbard to ground out for outs two and three to send Mt. Aloysius to the 3-2 win.
