Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Pulls Away in the Fourth Quarter to Outlast Penn State Altoona

GREENSBURG – It was a one-point game after three quarters, but the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team put it into high gear for the final ten minutes to pull out a 56-45 victory over Penn State Altoona inside Chambers Hall this evening.

The Bobcats improve to 11-3 and 6-1 in the AMCC, while they drop the Lions to 2-13 and 1-7 in conference play.

For the first time this season, the Bobcats fell behind after the first quarter of action. Penn State Altoona started the game scoring the first seven points, before Sidney McCully made the Bobcats' first shot just over two minutes in. The Bobcats cut into the early lead a little bit but trailed 14-10 after the opening frame.

The Lions got their lead up to eight with six and a half minutes to play in the second quarter, their largest of the game. Pitt-Greensburg stormed back to end the first half on a 13-0 run and took its first lead of the game and a five-point (26-21) lead into the break.

After Penn State Altoona narrowed the Bobcats lead to one in the third quarter, the Bobcats pulled away in the final frame to secure the conference win on their home court.

In the fourth quarter, Pitt-Greensburg forced seven Lion turnovers and outscored them by 10 points. The Bobcats built a double-digit lead near the four-minute mark and got their advantage to as high as 13 points as time wound down.

McCully led the Bobcats with 15 points and dished out five assists alongside five steals on the defensive end. Nadege Durand netted 12 points as the only other Bobcat to reach double figures. Eight Bobcats contributed to the scoring effort.

Shaquoia McCray pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds to yet again lead the Pitt-Greensburg rebounding unit. As a team the Bobcats owned a +17-rebounding advantage over the Lions, 43-26.

Pitt-Greensburg will take a couple of days to rest and then be right back at it this weekend for a conference matchup against Hilbert College. Tip-off scheduled for 1 pm on Saturday in Hamburg, NY. The Bobcats defeated Hilbert 81-39 back on December 4 in Greensburg.

NOTE: Hilbert College has a no spectator policy that will be in effect for Saturday's game. Live video and stats will be available.
